Maryam Namazie to speak in Trafalgar Square

We are very grateful to campaigner and broadcaster Maryam Namazie, who was named Secularist of the Year in 2005, for her offer of support and help. We are also delighted to announce that Maryam will be one of speakers on March 25th.

Please consider signing Maryam's online petition in support if free speech and secularism and visit her blog site.

Maryam was today a co-signatory on a letter to Charlie Hebdo, a French journal that oublished the Danish cartoons. The other signatories were Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Chahla Chafiq, Caroline Fourest, Bernard-Henri Lévy, Irshad Manji, Mehdi Mozaffari, Taslima Nasreen, Salman Rushdie, Antoine Sfeir, Philippe Val and Ibn Warraq. Read it here.

Maryam has an extraordinary biography, which can be read in full here. It ends:
she has been roundly criticised by Islamists, the Islamic Republic of Iran and even of Ken Livingstone after his invitation to this country of Yusuf Al Qaradawi.

So she must be doing something right.

Fantastic. I was hoping you'd twist her arm and get Namazie to speak.

From her biog:

Maryam Namazie is currently a producer for TV International English, a member of the Central Council of the Organisation for Women's Liberation and Director of the Worker-communist Party of Iran's International Relations Committee. She is also co-editor of WPI Briefing and the Worker-communist Review.

So much for this being a march just for right-wing bigots, eh?
